If you are thinking about purchasing an Electric Vehicle, you can use this guide to ensure all necessary steps are fulfilled to safely install the most appropriate EV charger for your home.

TYPE OF HOME CHARGERS

There are 3 types of home chargers available to use, which vary based on their power and the amount of electricity they consume.

LEVEL 1

Standard 3-pin electricity outlet, suitable for trickle charging (up to 2.8 kW)

LEVEL 2

Single to three phase EV charger which requires professional installation. Power ranges from 7 to 22 kW.

DUAL LEVEL CHARGE CORD

sSwitch between level 1 (up to 2.8 kW) and level 2 (up to 7 kW) charging. Requires professional installation of a single phase (3-pin) industrial plug.

Precautions: When using the Dual Level Charge Cord with a Level 1 socket, avoid plugging into any power extensions as they may cause a fire hazard and risk to your home and vehicle. Plug directly into a level 1 electrical socket for more safer use (provided the socket is not worn out or damaged).

UNDERSTANDING CHARGING OPTIONS FOR YOUR HOME

If you reside in a villa / townhouse:

Check with your compound management and/or landlord to ensure that you have obtained the necessary approvals before installing a charger.

If you reside in a villa / townhouse:

If you reside in an apartment:

Precautions:Uncertified installers may not be familiar with the charger and might use improper wiring connections which could lead to fires or damage to your home. Refer to your local dealer for the available certified home charger installation options.

SCHEDULING YOUR HOME CHARGER INSTALLATION

Contact us to schedule a site visit from one of our recommended charger installers.

It is important to discuss the overall layout and design of your home charger setup with the charger installer during the home inspection visit. This includes the location and position of the charger, type and color of trunking to be used, external or internal cabling, and any other design elements.

Using a certified installer or compound engineer, check if your residence can support a 7kW, 11kW, or 22kW charger depending on your home’s available power capacity.

YOUR 7-STEP
HOME CHARGER INSTALLATION JOURNEY

Review the Home Charger Installation Guidelines for your initial understanding of the installation process and government requirements.

Contact us to assist you in scheduling your free home inspection visit.

The charger installer partner will then contact you to confirm your preferred home inspection date/time.

(Recommendation: Make sure to discuss your desired charger installation location and setup with the installer during their visit.)

After your home inspection, you will receive a detailed installation quotation from the installer.

You can now book/pre-book your electric vehicle with us.

Once your electric vehicle booking is confirmed, you can contact the home charger installer and accept the provided quotation and simultaneously schedule your home charger installation date.

(Recommendation: To schedule installation either on the same day or just after delivery of your electric vehicle)

Upon installation, the installer will provide you with training on how to utilize the charger, its associated app and account setup, and assist you in linking
